The Union South Logo is a Butthole

Since its erection in 2011, Union South has been a center of campus life at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Every day, hundreds of students pass through its doors and under its sunburst logo derived from the “Union Chairs,” another UW icon. Yet, students such as Marcus Cera, a senior at UW, see something else.

“It’s a butthole,” Cera insists. Cera, who right away noticed the similarity between the logo and an anus, was shocked. “At first, when I pointed it out to people, I think they thought I meant figuratively. Like, I was saying that it didn’t look good. But I meant it literally. It’s a butthole.”

It seems to be a story out of fiction. In fact, the NBC show Community featured an episode where the school flag was designed to look like an anus, with the school administration blissfully unaware.

“I’ve written letters!” Cera admits, frustratedly. “I once shouted it to Biddy Martin at a hockey game! No one listens! And I got banned from hockey games.”

Taking a second look, it’s hard not to see what Marcus Cera has seen. The circle of oblong shapes pointing to a small dot in the center easily brings to mind the pucker of skin around a bodily orifice.

As of yet, the administration at UW-Madison have not released a statement concerning the logo. When asked if he would have it replaced, Cera replied, “I don’t care if they change it. I just don’t want to be the only one who sees it.”

Well, he isn’t anymore.
